<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">The New Zealand team (212 athletes, 112 men and 100 women, across twenty-one sports) collected a total of 20 medals, seven gold, six silver and seven bronze. Well done:-) Rowing led the sports with five medals, followed by canoeing with three medals, two medals in each of rugby sevens, cycling and athletics, and one medal in each of sailing, golf, boxing, trampolining, tennis and triathlon. It was the first time New Zealand won medals in trampolining (and gymnastics overall) and tennis.</span></p>
<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Sprint canoeist </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Carrington" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Lisa Carrington</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> won gold medals in the women&#8217;s K-1 200 metres, K-1 500 metres and with </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caitlin_Regal" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Caitlin Regal</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> in the K-2 500 metres to become New Zealand&#8217;s most successful Olympian with six medals in all, including five gold medals. Rower </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_Twigg" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Emma Twigg</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> claimed the gold medal in the women&#8217;s single sculls after finishing fourth in the previous two games. The men&#8217;s rowing eight claimed the gold medal for the first time since 1972, with </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamish_Bond" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Hamish Bond</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> becoming the first New Zealander to win a gold medal at three successive Olympics. Rowing pair </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerri_Gowler" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Kerri Gowler</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> and </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Prendergast" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Grace Prendergast</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> won the gold medal in the women&#8217;s pair before helping the women&#8217;s-eight win the silver medal. The </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_women%27s_national_rugby_sevens_team" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">women&#8217;s rugby sevens team</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> beat France 26–12 to claim the gold medal.</span></p>
