Since lingual means ‘tongue’, lingual braces are braces that face the tongue. Although there are several different approaches to this, the most common are braces with brackets that are mounted on the inside of the teeth, as opposed to the outside. This results in a semi-invisible form of braces – particularly suited to people that are sensitive to the visibility of braces and their appearance during treatment.

Lingual braces have become more popular in recent years as they offer a discrete treatment option for adults that still want the benefits of a beautifully aligned & corrected smile. Many of these patients would have declined treatment if only traditional, external bracket based braces were available.

There are several name brand lingual braces manufacturers in the market. Two of the most prominent brands are Incognito and Suresmile. While these systems are similar, only Incognito used custom made brackets AND robotically bent wires to ensure the slimmest brackets possible for your mouth. Both systems use a digital model of your teeth and digital treatment planning.
