We love beautiful smiles.
Protect your teeth during contact sports. Always wear a mouth guard, it will protect your teeth/lips and prevent you from biting yourself during strenuous sports like rugby, football, basketball, hockey or boxing.
Get your custom-fitted mouthguard and make it part of your team sports gear.
.
WILL BRACES AFFECT your SPORTS & EXERCISE?
Your braces won’t stop you from playing sports, but you’ll need to take some extra precautions during these activities.
.
Always wear a mouthguard. It is a rule you should follow even if you don’t have braces because it will protect your teeth.
.
Braces are made to fit comfortably in your mouth, but if you get hit with a ball or the shoulder of a teammate, they can do some serious damage, so the mouth guard is vital whenever you head out to play.
If your school is interested in taking part in our mouthguard sponsorship program, please send us an email and discuss what we can do for you. dres.bachmann@gmail.com

WHALE TALES ART TRAIL, AUCKLAND 2022

Event Tip

From 24 January- 18 April 2022, a trail of unique and stunning Whale Tail Sculptures, designed by artists and children.

Inspired by the Bryde’s Whale, the 80 Big Broos (large Tail sculptures) and 80 Pēpi (mini Tail sculptures) will dot Auckland’s streets, parks, and open spaces to provide residents and visitors with a fresh opportunity to explore the City of Sails.

Fantastic and a big, big smile

Did you know?

Blue whales are the largest animals alive today, and they have no teeth to eat food! So instead, blue whales are filter feeders. There are a total of 15 types of whales that eat this way. These species are known as Baleen whales because they have baleen plates instead of teeth.

However, we also did a small Whale Tales Art Gallery inspired by this outstanding exhibition.

Exploring these artistic Tales at the Whale Trail Auckland is a great idea. https://whaletales2022.org/art-trail/

Wear your retainer before your dog does

Pets like dogs and cats love retainers and aligners.

Dogs are attracted by the smell of the materials from which retainers & aligners are made, as well as saliva. With their powerful jaws, dogs can render them useless in no time. Likewise, cats will play with a retainer and can also damage them.
Be Careful with Retainers
There are two places for removable aligners and retainers: in the mouth or in their case. When taken out of the mouth, they should be placed in their case. When taken out of their case, the retainers or aligners should be placed in the mouth.

Do not wrap it in a napkin – they can easily be thrown away with the trash. Please, do not place retainers or aligners in your pocket unless they are in their protective case. Without the case, retainers that are loose in your pocket can be broken.
Contact your orthodontist immediately if they are lost or broken, however, if it does not fit correctly or if eaten by your dog. Remember – you need to wear your retainers or aligner, not your dog.

Smile more, worry less

Smiling more often can help with self-confidence and improve health. The chemicals that are released when a person smiles help fight symptoms of depression and fatigue. Smiling is also known to be contagious. So it can help feel better and help someone else feel better too when a smile is shared. Smiling more often can make a whole place feel good!
However, it is always good to smile.

Do not hesitate to call Candice 09 448 1128 and book your Bachmannsmile consultation today.

better brushing teeth men or women

Hi boys, keep on brushing; your aim should be 100%

Well done, ladies. Keep on the excellent effort, and you will reach 100%

1. Brush Your Teeth
You have been told to brush your teeth twice a day, every day since you were a kid and for a good reason. Brush your teeth for 3 minutes after every meal to ensure excellent oral health.

2. Avoid Sugary Drinks and Lollies
Sugar processed by oral bacteria produce acids that lead to tooth decay. So our orthodontic specialists suggest avoiding sugary drinks, candies and lollies to make sure you don’t cause painful cavities and tooth decay.

3. Avoid Bad Oral Health Habits
To ensure that your smile remains beautiful, you must avoid all bad oral health habits such as smoking, tongue piercing, and excessive alcohol consumption.

4. Floss every day
It is impossible to reach the tight spaces between your teeth and under the gumline with a toothbrush. That’s why we emphasise the importance of flossing every day. We also advise that the best time to floss your teeth is before bedtime.

5. See Your Dentist Regularly
Take time out to see your dentist at least twice a year to maintain your oral health.

Did you know?

It is essential to wear your plastic retainer after your braces come off.
Why do I have to wear a retainer after successful orthodontic treatment?
Retainers are designed to hold teeth in place after your braces are removed. They are usually made of wire, plastic or a combination of both.
Braces straighten teeth by applying pressure. Like a tree bending in the breeze, they usually want to return to their original position once the pressure is gone — especially with young patients who are still growing. Retainers increase muscle memory and keep teeth in place.
Retainers ensure that the results, where so much effort has been involved, are maintained over time.
Once your braces are removed, please wear a retainer to keep your beautiful Bachmannsmile.

Smile News 8-Charcoal Toothpaste

Charcoal Toothpaste doesn’t make the teeth black or white.
Social media is full of advertisements and endorsements for charcoal toothpaste: the latest tooth-whitening miracle product! You can barely open Instagram or read a Buzzfeed list without seeing someone recommend the wonders of charcoal for your face and teeth. Some even use it as a rinse for your hair!
The American Dental Association has not found any evidence that charcoal toothpaste is safe or effective, and it may actually harm the teeth and gums. Charcoal toothpaste is advertised as a whitening agent that can remove particles from the teeth, but this is a misleading claim.

Cavities are caused by a germ.

A germ causes cavities. It can be spread while kissing & sharing food. Tooth actually decay results when bacteria in your mouth feed on food debris (starchy, sticky foods are a primary culprit) and produce acid as a byproduct. This mix of food, acid, saliva, and germs clings to your teeth as a filmy substance called plaque.

Plaque can erode teeth enamel and cause cavities to form. No matter what you eat, cavities won’t develop without the help of such bacteria. These germs can spread from mouth to mouth via shared food and utensils, sneezing, kissing, …

Please send us your best genuine smile.

Smiling is a universal sign of happiness.

You can show it to all your friends without wearing a mask. Just send a picture with your awesome Bachmannsmile.

The Link Between Smiling and Happiness

Smiling is a universal sign of happiness. No matter what country you go to or what culture you take in, smiling is a sign of joy and acceptance. The main reason for that is because studies have shown that when a person is smiling, it affects specific muscles that can make that person feel happy. In addition, when you use these particular muscles, your brain will release endorphins, which are brain chemicals that will induce feelings of pleasure and euphoria. So smiling indeed does have the ability to make you happier – even if you have to force yourself into doing so!

How to make JUICY Pesto Pasta with pesto sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup+ pesto
  • 300 – 350 g / 10 – 12 oz pasta of choice
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup pasta cooking water
  • Parmesan, for serving

Instructions

1) Bring a large pot of water to the boil with the salt.
2) Add pasta and cook for the length of time per the packet.
3) Just before draining, scoop out 1 cup of the pasta cooking water.
4) Drain pasta in a colander, leave it for a minute.
5) Transfer pasta to a bowl (do not use pasta cooking pot, too hot).

Baby teeth

Some babies aren’t born with teeth but get them shortly after birth. Generally seen within the first month of life, teeth that emerge soon after birth are called neonatal teeth. However, according to the journal Pediatrics, neonatal teeth are even rarer than natal teeth. Natal teeth are teeth that are already present at birth. They are different from neonatal teeth, which grow during the first 30 days after birth.

Most babies will develop teeth between 6 and 12 months.

Typically, the first teeth to come in are almost always the lower front teeth (the lower central incisors), and most children will usually have all of their baby teeth by age 3

The lower (bottom) front teeth usually come through the gum first and followed by the upper (top) front teeth.

Teething

Many babies’ teeth come through without any problems. However, for some, the gums swell and become sore as teeth breakthrough. As a result, your teething baby may cry, have a slight fever, have red cheeks, drool, not eat or sleep well and want to bite something hard.

If your baby is upset, gently rub their gums with a clean finger or the back of a cold spoon. You can also wrap ice cubes in a washcloth and place the cloth on your baby’s cheek. Next, give your baby something to chew on, such as a clean teething ring. You can also buy teething gels from your chemist.

Caring for your baby’s teeth

These first teeth will help your baby to eat and speak well. Healthy baby teeth usually mean healthy adult teeth, too, so it’s important that you look after your baby’s first teeth.

Brush teeth twice a day

As soon as your baby’s teeth start to show, start brushing. Use a small, soft brush and a smear of regular-strength fluoride toothpaste twice a day. One brushing should be at night before your baby goes to bed.

Use fluoride toothpaste

Fluoride makes teeth stronger and reduces tooth decay (holes). Use a 1000 parts per million (ppm) regular-strength fluoride toothpaste for your baby’s teeth.

Lift the lip every month

Gently lift your child’s top lip once a month to check inside their mouth. It’s a quick and easy way to see if tooth decay (holes) is present.

The New Zealand Dental Association website has a video on how to lift the lip
