Did you consume a lot of chocolate this Easter weekend?

Chocolate is a nice treat; however, be careful of hidden dangers.

However, we advise avoiding sugary foods while wearing braces. While wearing your braces, you will want to avoid foods that are extremely soft, chewy or sticky and that contain a large amount of sugar or starch. Foods that are safe and unsafe while you are wearing your braces.
And it is essential to brush your teeth 30 minutes after every meal.
This role will keep your teeth nice and healthy throughout orthodontic treatment.

Some things look good from the first sight, but what is if you dig deeper, and have a look under the surface.
Can the job still be done correctly?
Is the functionality given?
Does it last forever?

It will be best if a specialist does the job.
Especially when it comes to your personal or your loved one’s oral healthcare, you want to make sure that you’ll get the best professional help in achieving the perfect smile. How can I make sure that I am in good hands? First of all, go to a specialist orthodontist and NOT to someone who has a special interest in orthodontics. But what is the difference between a dentist with special interests and a specialist orthodontist?
While dentists and orthodontists have a lot in common, specialisation is what sets an orthodontist apart.
What is an orthodontist?
Think of it as the difference between a painter and an artist. Your family’s general dentist will be able to help you to improve your overall oral health. A specialist orthodontist is the only professionally qualified person to diagnose, prevent and treat dental or facial irregularities, and correctly align your teeth, bite and jaws.
As well as completing a five-year degree in dentistry, an orthodontist also undergoes a further 5,000 hours of specialist training in the field of orthodontics. Whether you or your child has treatment with braces or clear aligners such as Invisalign®, you need to be sure you’re being treated by an orthodontist to get the best results.
That is why we can guarantee the result of our work.

The Association of Orthodontists recommends that children should be evaluated by the time they are age 7.
However, some circumstances may require earlier intervention, such as:

– Excessive overcrowding of teeth

– Open bites: when the upper and lower front teeth fail
to meet

– Overbites: when the upper teeth protrude past the
lower teeth

– Underbites: when the lower teeth protrude past the
upper teeth

– Crossbites: when teeth in the lower jaw overlap teeth
in the upper jaw

.
Recommended and possible treatments:
.
Phase I Treatment
(intervention treatment) 6 to 10 years old.
Starts before all the permanent teeth come through.
This treatment is usually recommended to make more space for developing teeth and correct oral problems, such as overbites and crossbites.
Phase I treatment often involves limited dental hardware, such as expanders and partial braces.
.
Phase II Treatment
(comprehensive treatment) Age 11 to 13.
When all their permanent teeth have come through.
This treatment usually involves full braces.
.
Whether your child will need phase I or II treatment will depend on the position of their teeth and jaw development.
The benefits of early examinations:
Having your children examined earlier (before age 7) has numerous benefits, including:
– Oral problems can be identified earlier
– tooth extraction can be avoided since more space can
be created
-Long-term treatment can be appropriately determined
and treatment time can be shortened

“A smile is the universal welcome.” – Max Eastman
Smiling is a universal sign of happiness. The main reason for that is because studies have shown that when a person is smiling, it affects specific muscles that can make that person feel happy. When you use these specific muscles, your brain will release endorphins, which are brain chemicals that will induce feelings of pleasure and euphoria. Smiling does have the ability to make you happier!
There is always the right time for a Bachmannsmile.
New patients are welcome.

Why it pays to choose a specialist orthodontist.
.
Specialist orthodontists have the knowledge, training and experience to advise on the full range of orthodontic treatment options.
.
An orthodontist is a registered dental specialist who has undertaken an additional three years of full-time postgraduate university study specialising in orthodontics.
.
An orthodontist focusses exclusively on straightening teeth, improving bite patterns and creating great smiles. Early treatment by a specialist can reduce or eliminate the need for more extensive treatment later in life.
.
A specialist orthodontist is well-equipped to diagnose what is the best treatment for your case.

Age is not a barrier to receiving corrective orthodontic treatment as healthy teeth maintain their ability to move within the jaw bone throughout a person’s life. An increasing number of adults are seeking specialist orthodontic treatment to enhance their smile, correct a bite problem and improve their self-esteem.
.
Be confident that you are in the care of a specialist by looking for the NZAO logo
All members of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO) are well trained. As a requirement of their ongoing professional registration, they must keep up to date with the latest trends and improvements in orthodontics.
.
You don’t need a referral to see a specialist orthodontist – call your local NZAO member like Bachmann Orthodontics and make an appointment. 09448 1128
You don’t have to gamble to get the smile you deserve.

We care about our Kiwis and take infection control very seriously.

We are taking additional precautions to protect your patients from COVID-19.
Our team is thoroughly trained in infection control. Our standard protocol is to disinfect each treatment room between every patient and thoroughly sterilise instruments.
And, of course, we use gloves, masks, and other protective gear all day long. We have a huge waiting area to keep the distance to each other.
We closed our Kids Playzone Area and have also removed books and magazines for now.
As an added measure of protection, we are wiping down waiting rooms on an hourly basis.
We continue to follow the situation closely and are abiding by all recommendations made by the Ministry of Health and the Dental Council.
Your safety is our top priority.
.
We have installed a Patient pre-screening before arrival at the practice for all appointments by phone:
1. Are you or anyone coming with you to your appointment feeling unwell?
2. Have you, anyone coming with you to your appointment or anyone in your household returned from overseas in the past 14 days?
3. Have you been in contact with a person with confirmed or suspicion of exposure to COVID-19 in the last 14-days
If the answer is YES to any of these questions, then any non-urgent treatment should be rescheduled until the person is well and/or the isolation period is completed. If the answer is ‘no’, then a routine
appointment may proceed
A. We ask that when you arrive for your appointment, you use the hand sanitiser that is available in the waiting room.
.
B. We ask that only the patient being treated attends the clinic. If the patient is under 16, one parent/guardian is allowed to accompany the patient. At this time, we ask siblings, friends and other family members to remain outside or to wait in your car.
.
C. If you are feeling unwell, have a cough, fever or other cold/flu symptoms, we ask that you reschedule your appointment.
.

Humans can detect smiles from more than 300 feet away, which developed out of a need to be able to distinguish friend from foe.

Keep your distance and smile.
The WHO World Health Organisation advises keeping a distance of at least two meters distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Wash your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
.
Practice respiratory hygiene.
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.
Stay home if you feel unwell. Follow the directions of your local health authority.
.
We want to see our patient healthy.

On the 6th of February 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed by Rangatira Māori and representatives of the Crown.
2020 is the 180th anniversary of the signing of the Waitangi Treaty.

The public holiday falls on a Thursday this year, and there’s plenty going on around Auckland. For example:

Summer Vibes North Shore Festival
Summer Vibes is the first event of its kind at Awataha Marae, which you’ll find behind AUT North Shore Campus.
There will be entertainment from local and international acts, a kids’ zone and the chance to learn about te reo and Waitangi.
The event is being put on in association with Auckland Council and Waitangi ki Tamaki Collective and will run from 10am until 4pm.
Sundown Sessions
ASB Showgrounds is being turned into an inner-city beach for Waitangi Day, complete with 100 tonnes of sand.
Armand van Helden will be headlining the party, joined on the line up by house hero Erick Morillo and a host of local and international DJs.

The word “giocondo” is not only a family name but also an Italian word meaning “jovial” or “self-amused.” As it happens, enigmatic facial expressions – especially smiles – are something of a Da Vinci trademark. Yet this particular smile has sparked hot debate for nearly five hundred years.
The magic of the Mona Lisa’s smile is that it seems to react to our gaze. What is she thinking? She smiles back, mysteriously. Look again. Her smile seems to flicker. We glance away, and the enigmatic smile lingers in our minds, as it does in the collective mind of humanity. In no other painting are motion and emotion, the paired touchstones of Leonardo’s art, so intertwined.

It is one of the most-discussed works of art ever, partly thanks to the subject’s ambiguous look.
According to a recent study by the University of Freiburg, though, the answer to whether she is “sad” or “happy” is simple: her expression is unequivocally “happy”.
Twelve participants were shown nine black and white photos of the Mona Lisa, eight of which had been digitally manipulated at the mouth; four made the model look happier, the other four sadder.
After shuffling the photos and showing them to each participant 30 times, the team found that the original photo was thought to be “happy” 97 per cent of the time.

Dr Claudia Bachmann (dentist and orthodontic specialist) established a lecture about teeth and oral health for the last four years.

Dr Bachmann has noticed that there is immediate action required concerning education in oral health. In her daily practice, she sees mostly kids and teenagers and is quite surprised how little everybody seems to know about oral hygiene. It is fun, educational, and entertaining.

The feedback from staff and parents is always positive. The highlights of the session are the pink tablets that she hands out to the kids to show them where they missed out on brushing.

If your school is interested, now or in the future, in her free service for class 7 to 8 students, feel free to get in contact with Bachmann Orthodontics 094481128.

Only SPEED Braces use a ‘Super-Elastic’ energy-storing component called a ‘Spring Clip’ to straighten teeth. The SPEED Spring Clip works like a computer chip inside your braces. The Spring Clip is ‘programmed’ by your orthodontist when SPEED Braces are placed on your teeth. The Spring Clip, made of space-age material, then follows the programmed instructions by applying a light continuous force to move teeth to their correct position gently. SPEED Braces have revolutionized Orthodontics with an advanced design, using space-age materials and manufacturing to deliver beautiful smiles and lasting results to Orthodontic patients worldwide.

1. SPEED Braces are 1/3 smaller than traditional braces. Patients of all ages appreciate SPEED’s small footprint and clean appearance.

2. SPEED Braces eliminate the need for the elastic ties that traditional braces require to straighten teeth. This decreases the pressure that is applied to the tooth, and decreases friction, allowing the teeth to move more freely. The result… More efficient and comfortable tooth movement!

3. The miniaturized and rounded surfaces of SPEEDBraces are easy to brush and clean, making it simple to maintain good oral hygiene.
With wires, you can create a lot of beautiful things.
However, nothing can beat braces to achieve a beautiful smile.

While metal braces are still an extremely effective method of straightening teeth and achieving a perfect smile, alternative orthodontic treatment options now include Clear or Tooth Coloured Ceramic Braces, Lingual (inside) braces and Clear Aligners (for example, Invisalign®).
Whether you’re considering traditional braces or an alternative to braces, only an orthodontist has the training, experience and expert knowledge to be able to offer you the suite of treatment options and give you the confidence of knowing you’re in the best hands.
If you want to know more about the different treatment options, call Candice and make an appointment today. 09448 1128
